I’m not one to usually write blogs, but I have to tell you about my experience working on Hungry Man Productions for the Amazon – Romeo and Juliet commercial where I played the role of Juliet’s Nurse – a very important role in Shakespeare’s, Romeo and Juliet story.
This involved award-winning director Wayne McClammy, and was beautifully shot in an old style warehouse at Downtown Los Angeles amongst the most elaborate, Shakespearean set design - with real lit candelabras, stuffed peacock statues, a giant chandelier with countless lit candle flames hanging from the high ceiling, real fruit on the table and cooked turkey breast. It was like a short film with a comedic twist that could have become a feature film.
I appreciate how Wayne connected with me in a way that made me feel valued as a member of the Romeo and Juliet – Capulets and Montagues clan. Although it was a long 17 hour day, it was a lot of fun working amongst the other Shakespearean-clothed actors. The wardrobe department did an exceptional job bringing out the Shakespeare characters via every single costume and the final product was truly worth it.
I have been a part of the acting industry for twenty years in Australia and now that I’m living in Los Angeles the experience of working with a director who appreciates my comedic work and who also makes me feel seen and valued gives me more determination to make my acting roles grow this year with feature films, tv series and also co-starring roles. I would also at any time feel honored and thrilled to be working with and directed by Wayne McClammy again in the future.
